Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death Review

Coldplay is one of the those bands that never really disappoints me.  There songs are catchy, and fun, which is exactly what I love about music.  I’ve loved all of their albums, and own more then half of them.  Viva La Vida is no exception.  It’s another amazing Coldplay album to add to their amazing discography.

Now I will state, that having seen then perform these songs live last summer (2008) was even more brilliant.  There was this energy that I cannot explain.  But it was definitely awe-inspiring.  Chris Martin was very entertaining himself.

But what of this new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends?  Is it really worth your money?  In a short answer I would say yes.  Chris Martin has returned to his great lyrics, and the band has been pushed in a darker more mature tone.  There is also something totally different about the whole thing that makes it a great triumph in moving forward as an artist.  There different, almost sounds of the world, type of styles that give it a very ethnic and inspiring feel.

There really is not a bad song on the whole album, which is quite a feat for any artists.  And of course, I am sure most have you have heard the controversy with their track 7 song Viva La Vida, but I for one, think that is one of their most brilliant songs on the whole album!

Coldplay’s Viva La Vida is very worth your money and is a great addition to your music collection.  It’s the perfect album to put in on a lazy weekend morning, or just chill in your car with.

THE SONGS:

1.  Life In Technicolor -

This is a peaceful song that definitely sets the mood of what is to come.  With mostly only instruments being played, it’s a great chance to take in the strings of the guitar, and the almost other worldly beats that prevale.  9/10

2.  Cemetaries of London -

This is one of my favorite songs on the whole album.  It has a dark tone that is often hypnotic.  Chris Martins’ vocals add to the eerie tone.  It’s moving, beautiful, and one of my favorites.  10/10

3.  Lost!

This is a great song too.  I very much enjoy the handclaps - and at the concert, the entire audience contributed to the beat.  It was amazing.  The lyrics too are haunting and beautiful.    9/10

4.  42 -

This is one of the slowest songs on the album.  A beautiful almost lullaby that pulls at your heart.  8/10

5.  Lovers In Japan / Reign Of Love -

Beautiful song.  It’s uplifting and soulful.  9/10

6.  Yes -

A very almost Indian inspired song, it’s fun and very earthy.  Chris Martin uses a deep tone to keep the songs’ momentum going at a great speed.  9/10

7.  Viva La Vida -

I’m sure you have all heard this song by now.  It’s catchy, and very fun.  I love the lyrics, and the strings are an added bonus.  10/10

8.  Violet Hill -

One of my other favorite tracks on the album.  There is this hauntingly beautiful tone that will stay with you for quite sometime.  It’s a breathtaking love song that will pull at your every being.  10/10

9.  Strawberry Swing -

This is a very fun, and very different song from all the rest.  It’s sweet, and the perfect summer afternoon type song.  8/10

10.  Death And All His Friends -

This is a very somber way to end the album.  But overall I think it has the perfect fit to the rest of the song.  8/10

Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends is probably my favorite album of 2008 and definitely a worthy addition to any music lovers’ collection.  This album is why I fell in love with Coldplay to begin with.  I hope they continue on this one of greatness for many years to come.
